Problem Statement

Gamified NFT ecosystem which increases demand for BCT (Basic Carbon Tonne) by providing additional use cases and incentives to pursue climate-positive actions. The POC is an NFT which "grows" a tree. It captures BCT's and it "ages" or "grows" over time, if it is sustained with BTC. As trees age, they develop more interesting features, offer a sense of pride and novelty, and hold value in BCT.

Solution

We extended a standard ERC721 to mint in exchange for BCT, hold BCT balances, "eat carbon", and dynamically develop attributes as a function of it's age. We deployed to Polygon, and have future plans to use WalletConnext to bridge BCTs to Optimism (once WalletConnext is out of beta for Optimism bridges), to create a multi-chain carbon credit market. We also had desired to use ChainLink VRF to generate randomness for some of the attributes, and use IPFS to store the generative artwork.
